Cookies I Can Eat!!

Well the bummer with all these food allergies is that I can’t eat a lot of the things I love. I’ve recently found that gluten is NOT my friend. I could handle the pork, I learned to live with the milk, and while I cried over the yeast issue I’ve dealt… but gluten! Really! Way to stab a girl in the heart. I can’t have normal cakes, breads, most pastries and cookies!!! I’ve tried many a gluten free recipe and they all taste like cardboard, corn or look so unappetizing I don’t care to go there.

What did I do about it? I spent read more »

All that brisket!

Well as you might recall we made a huge brisket for my Pawpaw’s birthday celebration a while back. We’ve had every brisket creation under the sun! I have to admit that my favorite were the marinated brisket tacos we made a few weeks back with Julie. MMMMMM goood!

Jenny

Well as many of you know my friend Jenny is about to have her first baby. She is due October 21st, but I’ve made many a bet that she will be coming a different day. I’ll let you know if I’m right or wrong when the time comes.

I think Jenny and Chauncey are very excited about their first baby. I also think they are going to make great parents! I’m a little jealous of Pretzel read more »

So Sinful!

A few years back while visiting my sister in St. Louis she introduced me to something called ‘St. Louis Gooey Butter Cake.’ This concoction is so sinfully delightful that I have been searching for a recipe every since. I found one!! This wasn’t exact, but of all the tries I’ve made over the years it is the closest to the real thing. I would have taken a photo of the full finished product, but we were too excited to try it and then well… it was just sooo good!

So in Love with Our Babies

As you all know, we adopted some pretty cute puppies. They are doing rather well. We have had some tummy problems with our Daisy, she’s a sensitive girl, but she’s getting better. They’ve done a few weeks of training and sit and stay are well into their vocabulary, however leave it and off are still a bit out of reach. We’ve also caved and let them get on the couch. It is kind of fun to take afternoon naps on the weekends with our babies. :)

I also recently made brag books read more »

Garden Fare

Well as you all know, I LOVE PLANTS! I love to look at them, I love to plant them, I love to water them, I love to eat the, I JUST LOVE THEM! Sean has to stop me from buying too many. He always says, “Do you think you will have enough time to show this plant the love and care it needs.” I usually huff and tell him I’m not a child, but he is usually right. I’ve had to be a bit more careful with my time since starting back to school, but I still dream of all the plants that will soon be in my yard.

Hungry Caterpillar and a Baby Quilt

Well a few months back we learned that some friends were expecting. I know, I know you think I’ve already told you this, but I assure you these are other friends. Laurie and Steven came into our lives about a year and a half ago. They are from west Texas, and are both Texas Tech graduates. We’ve really enjoyed getting to know them and are excited that they’ve decided to expand their family.

A couple weeks back Laurie’s sister threw her a beautiful baby shower, cute hungry caterpillar cake to go with it! And we played one of the funniest baby games I’ve seen in a while. Carrie put white powder into baggies read more »

80 years!

On September 2nd my Pawpaw turned 80 years old. I wanted to have fireworks and a huge party but alas it was not within my grasps to make happen. Instead he drove to Austin for the weekend. We had several family members here to celebrate and we cooked up a storm. Sean made one of the largest briskets I’ve ever seen! It turned out amazing!!! He also made smoked sausage on his grill. He’s turning into a truly gifted grill master. I made coleslaw and baked beans and I made two different pineapple upside down cakes, Pawpaw’s favorite. A new one for me, but I was told that the traditional one I made turned out quite well.

We had several family members make the trip. My great aunt Jean and great uncle James, my read more »
