Cannoli Making with the Ladies

So Monica and Lisa came over for an impromptu pastry lesson. All my lady friends keep nagging me about cannoli’s, especially when I’m at a pastry shop and gasp at how much they charge for the small cannoli’s. I love a good pastry, but I’m not going to pay ten times the price of what it cost to make. Just my personal opinion. Anyway so I decided to show them how easy they were to make. The evening started out well, I made some tortellini with zucchini for dinner and we were catching up. Then it was time to get to business and in the process I knocked over my wine glass. This would be one good reason to dislike tile floors. I’ve broken two glasses on that floor… and that is just this week! Anyway Sean came to our rescue and cleaned everything up. Yea for awesome hubbys!

Anyway, after that Monica went to making the dough for the cannoli shells and I had Lisa make the filling. They were a bit unruly and hard to keep on task, but read more »

Happy Spring! or Easter! or Passover!

Well we enjoyed family time today with Julie and made a good dinner. Followed by Sean’s favorite dessert… trifle. This time I made a strawberry lemon trifle, since the strawberries are in season and so scrumptious.

Yea for yummy desserts and family! I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend!!

Tree Cutting!

As previously stated I cut the first tree down myself. Well on Sunday Sean and I tackled the other one. The other Mexican plum wasn’t dying or infested with ants, but it was right up against our house. When we got on the roof we found signs of damage the tree had already caused. The previous owners decided instead of cutting the tree down they would just tie it back. It helped some, but as the tree got bigger it needed more action taken. We were going to just cut a few limbs down originally, but when we decided to put the garden on that side of the yard we decided the whole thing must go. We will have to remove the big oak eventually, but for now it isn’t causing as much damage (or in the way of my veggie bed). In order to be eco friendly we will eventually plant two new tress on the other side of the yard, though for now we can’t afford it. Trees aren’t cheep!

Anyway here is how the day went. read more »
