More gardening!!!

I love this time of year. I get to play outside in the beautiful weather and get all dirty. :) We’ve almost got our raised beds together… photos to come soon. For now I’ll just give you a teaser of all the veggies I bought to plant in the raised beds. Yea for gardens!

Baby Shower

Well today we spent the afternoon with friends celebrating the impending arrival of their little girl. We met Lisa and David about a year and a half ago, we instantly hit it off and have enjoyed many an evening hanging out with them. We are so very thrilled that they are expecting and can’t wait to meet their little girl. If you click the photo it will take you to some more photos from the afternoon. Please note that I’m taking a photography class and not all the photos are perfect because I’m in manual mode baby. ;)

Bushes!!!

So, I’m not a huge fan of bushes. I mean I like the ones in the really awesome gardens in Europe that have been there for decades, or centuries, and create awesome mazes and stuff, however the boring ones most of us have in our yards me no like. Thus I’ve been telling Sean I was going to cut them down. He always seems to underestimate the determination of his wife. :) Not a good thing for him, as it tends to make me more likely to prove him wrong.

Anyway this is what the yard looked like before… read more »

Motion

So for my photography class I had to take photos of motion with my new camera. It was actually a lot more complicated than one would think. It seems as we enter the digital age companies name everything different and move stuff around so you stick with their brand rather than switch cameras and have to learn it all over again. I’ve been using Sean’s grandpa’s camera to take most of my photos. It is an old film Minolta (SLR). It is great! It takes super photos and I know how to use it really well, though I feel like an infant with this new DSLR. I bought a Nikon D5000 as previously stated in another post. It is awesome in auto mode, but I can’t get the cool shots I want to thus the reason for taking the class.

Well anyway this is what I came up with for motion, the assignment for the week. What do you think? read more »

Ladies night!

So a friend of mine, Jessica, and I have been having ladies nights pretty routinely. It is kind of awesome! As we trade off making dinner, who’s house it is, and if we watch a movie/tv or just catch up all evening. The cool part is that we both tend to make pretty nice dinners. I’ve made my lasagna rolls, roasted a chicken and some veggies… good stuff. Well I went to Jessica’s place last night… she made Peruvian food! It was this chicken dish called Aji de Gallina. It was super good! The coolest part was that she gave me some of the Aji Amarillo Paste so that I can make some of my own. How nice was that!?!

She also gave me leftovers from dinner, but they left the house this morning with the hubby. I told him how good dinner was and I think he thought he was meant to have the left overs. I guess that just means I’ll have to try my hand at the dish soon!

Hope everyone is having a good week! I’m off to do yard work now. :)

MS 150 Ride Weekend

What a weekend!!! Sean and I drove to Katy, TX Friday evening to drop Sean off at his hotel. He stayed with the two other guys on his team, Joesph and Larry. That evening we were lucky to get to see Jenny as she was in town for a  couple of weeks after her long trip to India, Nepal, and Thailand. She had great stories and all sorts of things to share. It was a great way to start the weekend. Sean loaded up on carbs for dinner and then I dropped him off. For those that don’t use FaceBook here were the Saturday updates for Sean:

7am UPDATE MS150: Sean’s team had trouble getting to the starting line on time due to all the crazy traffic and rain. It looks like it should be light rain for the moment. Did you know read more »

The Stork Strikes Again

Well friends I think the stork needs a break, or should we all just quit drinking the water! :)

In all seriousness and excitement, our friends Steven and Laurie told us this weekend that they are expecting. Their new family member will arrive early October. We were very excited to hear their news and so glad they invited us, and other friends, over to personally share the news.

Now I just have to wait to find out what they’re having before I fire up the sewing machine again! Though I told her even if its a girl I’m not doing pink! ;) We’ve had so many girls born lately! Now to finish what I need to get done before David and Lisa’s bundle of joy gets here.

Congratulations Steven and Laurie, we’re so happy for the two of you!

Plant Sale!

Just for those of you who don’t know I’ve been doing a ton of volunteering all over Austin. One of my most favorite places to volunteer is the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. The people are friendly and the atmosphere amazing. I usually work in the gift store, but I love getting dirty when I can. Today was the spring plant sale. They carry all sorts of native plants and there are thousands of people who trek out there to find great plants.

I worked ticketing and helped water the plants for the evening. After carrying two very full watering cans fifty feet or so for about an hour, I nixed the gym tonight. :) We couldn’t use the hose because there were still shoppers and it would have been a tripping hazard. Well it went well and I only had a few grouchy customers. All in all it made for a good day! If you’ve never gone, you should go in the fall!

Happy weekend!

Wildseed Farm and Wine

Well today was a most beautiful day! I was accompanied by ladies from my wives club group to Becker Vineyards for a wine tasting and picnic on the lawn and then onto the Wildseed Farm. It ended up being me, Lili, Lena, Lena’s friend Tanie, and newbie Lori.

We had our favorite Moroccan French bar tender serving us samples. He always makes me laugh with his accent, jeering at us ladies, and political views. You get six samples and now the give you a complementary wine glass. It was nice to have a little souvenir of the day. Then we went out near the lavender fields and ate our lunch. It was a beautiful day read more »

MS 150 Ride

Friends and family,

As many of you know, I’ve been training on my bicycle for the last few months in preparation for the MS150 ride.  For those of you who haven’t heard of it, it’s a two day trek from Houston to Austin in which all the participants raise money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.  The money that’s donated in the rider’s name funds research and helps the people that suffer from this unpredictable disease of the central nervous system.  While it’s been a time to challenge myself for the fitness goal of riding more than 160 miles, it also has a more personal connection — My aunt has struggled with MS for many years.  By choosing to do this ride and ask for donations, I’m trying to help her and all the people that are affected by the disease.
Any amount of money that you could give would be great help… even it if it’s just five dollars. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, search for my name on this page:
My aunt, her family, and I appreciate all the support.
