Caves, family and board games… oh my!

Well it has been a while since we updated the blog . We’ve been a bit busy. I think 3 summer classes and an extremely demanding work project have made life a bit more than we could handle. For the first bit of August there were days that Sean and I only chatted one the phone and not in person, hard to believe but true. Our schedules have just been crazy. Though we’ve tried our best to still enjoy ourselves.

Sean has been having some friends over on occasion for board games, basically its a low key guys night with beer, pretzels and board games. I’m glad that we’ve been able to meet such wonderful people though our meetup groups. It always makes life more enjoyable when you have lots of folks around you. Sean is also still hosting a board game event at a local restaurant a few times a month. It seems to be picking up and more and more people are attending. He is also still very much enjoying his cycling, though he still grumbles about the heat when he gets back most times.

As for myself well, I’m just trying to decide what is next. I’ve been a bit frustrated with things as… well darn it! they just haven’t been going my way. I still have not been able to find a job, and while I’m glad to have school for the structure my heart hasn’t really been in it. I’ve been trying to look at things a different way and be more appreciative for what I can do right now. I’m still volunteering at the Wildflower Center and helping out when I can with the Charity Craft Volunteer Network, though I’ve cut back on most of my other volunteer in favor of classes and some other side projects.

The projects you ask, well that list is endless. I’m working on reorganizing the meetup groups I run to make life a little less hectic. I’m also trying to organize our things as I think we need to do a bit of house cleaning. Then there is the photo book I’ve been trying to put together for my grandfather. I hope to finish that soon, but it has turned out to be a lot more work then originally anticipated. I’m also trying to work up a new look for the website here as I’m thinking of adding quite a bit to it, I’m going to leave you in suspense on how as well… I’m not a 100% sure yet myself. :) We will try as always to keep you informed.

As  for the caves mentioned, we went to Cascade Caverns a few weeks back with some folks in our couples meeup group. We really enjoyed ourselves and the people we were with. I was a bit nervous as we went down into the caves due to the amount of stairs. Sean held my hand all the way down and our friend David only made a few quips about my inability to walk in a straight line. :) All in all it was a good day between the food, the adventure and the friends.

As for family, we both finally had a few days since Sean’s job change and my going back to school to go to Lake Jackson and visit family. My sister was also in town that weekend and we all had a great time. We were able to eat a lovely mean with Sally when we got in on Friday and stayed up chatting quite late as we often do with Sean’s parents. Then we spend Saturday and Sunday at my mom’s house with my mom, sister and dad making pico de gallo and other goodies and playing some good board games. We got my family hooked on Bonanza and Ticket to Ride. Though we found out after playing enough games that my mother can be quite sly and attention should be paid to her throughout the whole game.

We stayed a few extra days and were also able to see Kenny, Beth, Hazel and my Pawpaw.  Kenny was nice enough to take us out for dinner thought the experience was a little off as he has bought a practical car. He still has his NSX, but he has also bought a car that can hold five people, luggage and even tow things. :) We enjoyed seeing him and hope he comes to visit soon. Beth and Hazel joined us at Sean’s mom’s house for a swim in the pool. Hazel has grown up so much! Every time I see her I have to stare a bit to make sure I’m looking at the same person. She sure is a smart kid, a bit stubborn but who wouldn’t be with Beth and Adam as parents. ;) Beth and Adam it seems will be buying a home before the end of the year is up. We’re very happy for them and hope all goes smoothly. As for Pawpaw, he is hanging in there. He golfs with his buddies most mornings, has found a free place to go for lunch and good company, and is keeping up with family as best he can. I was really glad to see him doing so well and in such good spirits.

Well I think I’ve gone on long enough. As always, we hope all our friends and family are safe and doing well.
