SxSW, Rodeo, and family!
Austin is crazy this time of year with festivals, spring break and good weather. It’s the way we like it!
This week has been filled with movies, music and technology affiliated with South by Southwest. We’ve been fortunate enough to see some of it and enjoy all the folks in town. Sean went to see ArcAttack with our friends Paul and Lori. Sean and I went to see an old family friend Kevin and his band Uncle Lucius on St. Patrick’s Day. My mom was also in town this week and was able to see Kevin at his first performance for South by Southwest. Yesterday we went with a group of friends to see Explosions in the Sky and today we were able to see a Latin Blues group called Manteca Beat at the Central Market north of the UT campus. Tons of Music! I’d have to say the highlight was the fireworks after the concert at Auditorium Shores by Explosions in the Sky. We were not expecting it, but it sure was awesome.
The Star of Texas Rodeo is also happening right now and Sean and I have tickets to see Sara Bareilles on Tuesday evening. It will be Sean’s first time to see portions of a professional rodeo and to attend a concert at one. He was a bit too excited to have a reason to wear his cowboy hat.
We’ve also had a lot happening with our families lately. Julie turned 22 last Thursday for starters. We’re planning on taking her out to paint the town when she gets back from visiting Lake Jackson. My mom was also in town for a few days over spring break. We worked on making her some new curtains for her bedroom and some computer things that had been giving her trouble. I’ll try to post photos of the curtains before I take them to mom at the end of the month.
All in all it’s been a pretty busy week and it doesn’t look like things will be slowing down much. Sean and I have joined a few groups via Meetup.com. If you’ve never heard of it I totally recommend checking it out. We’ve found some new friends via Meetup events as well as finding new folks with similar interests that we can learn from. Though once you join it’s a bit addictive and your schedule fills up, so you’ve been warned as well as informed.
Well I’m off to finish some projects. I’ve got a long day of getting camping gear ready for our trip this coming weekend, a lot of photography projects that I need to work on, as well as finishing Mom’s curtains.
Peace Out
